ABOUT

Ouverture London began not with a scent, but with a place.

Landscapes shaped by climate, culture, and the lives lived within them. From sun-warmed coastlines to cool, mineral-rich hillsides, these environments carry something deeper than what we see.

What stays with us is rarely just visual. It’s atmosphere, the palpable shift in pace, the feeling of a place, the intricacies of local ritual. These are the details we translate into personal and home fragrance.

Ouverture London is a luxury fragrance brand creating candles, home scents, and personal fragrance inspired by landscape, culture, and ritual. Each piece is designed to bring a true sense of place into your space and into your everyday.

Through scent, we create a sensory language for atmosphere, connection, and memory, where fragrance becomes a way to experience place, not just scent it.

Where It all Began

Founded by award-winning wine writer and British broadcaster Aleesha Hansel, Ouverture London began with an early sensitivity to place.

Travelling through Europe as a child, moving from inner-city Birmingham into entirely different environments, there was an immediate awareness that places felt different, not just visually, but in how people lived, gathered, and moved through everyday life.

Years later, wine gave that instinct structure.

Through terroir, the understanding of how environmental factors shape a crop, came a clearer recognition of how place leaves its mark.

The first Ouverture collection pays homage to this, drawing from the regions where this connection was first understood and refined.

Scent as Storytelling

But the pull towards place goes deeper than landscape alone.

Aleesha’s work has long centred on the cultural and ritual life of drinks, what they represent, why they matter, and how they are used within communities. While writing her first book, exploring the anthropology of indigenous drinks, a deeper pattern began to emerge.

For many, identity is held in rituals, in landscapes, in sensory memory passed down over time. For others, those connections are less intact.

As someone of mixed heritage, this awareness shaped a quiet preoccupation with place, with what is inherited, what is lost, and what can be rebuilt.

Ouverture London sits within that space.

A way of creating a sensory language that allows connection, whether to something remembered, imagined, or still forming.

The Mythology of Ouverture

Even our identity carries this thinking.

At the top of our logo sits the pinecone, a natural emblem long associated with awakening, memory, and the opening of perception. Across cultures and centuries, it has symbolised fertility, renewal, and spiritual vision.

Look closer and you’ll find a face, not one, but many. An amalgamation of figures drawn from different cultural traditions, suggesting that no single origin defines us. Crowned with grapes, another nod to where it all began.

Even the name Ouverture carries its own layered meaning. Taken from À la recherche du temps perdu, it speaks to the Proustian moment, when scent calls forth memory so vividly it becomes a kind of time travel.

Crafted with Conscience

True luxury, we believe, isn’t loud - it’s considered.

Every material we use is chosen not just for beauty and performance, but for its environmental and social integrity. Our candles are made using ProTerra certified soy wax - a standard that champions sustainability across the entire supply chain, from non-GMO verification to ethical labour practices and soil protection. It’s a wax that burns cleanly, but it also carries a deeper promise: one rooted in biodiversity, traceability, and care.

Our wicks are crafted from unbleached linen and cotton - designed to burn evenly with no metal core, smoke, or soot.

Each scent is phthalate-free and composed from a blend of premium fragrance oils and naturally derived essential oils - a formulation chosen to ensure both luxury and longevity in every burn.

The bespoke engraved vessels are made from metal - lightweight, endlessly recyclable material that retains its properties no matter how many times it's repurposed. Whether refilled, reused, or reimagined, these containers are designed to live on long after the final flicker of flame.

Even our packaging is thought about. Our candle boxes are made in the UK from FSC-certified paper, sourced from responsibly managed forests that support biodiversity, protect workers’ rights, and sustain local communities. The paper itself is recyclable, and made using a chlorine-free process - but what makes the full box biodegradable is the ink: a vegetable-based alternative to conventional petrochemical ink, ensuring that every element breaks down cleanly and responsibly.

Beyond Fragrance

Scent is only one part of how we experience a space.

Ouverture extends beyond fragrance into curated playlists, a sensory-led newsletter, and forthcoming personal and home fragrance formats, each designed to deepen atmosphere and support everyday ritual.

From what you hear to how you feel within a space, these elements work together to shape a more immersive, intentional way of living.

Our Philosophy

Ouverture London is not just about fragrance.

It is about how we experience the world, how we create meaning in our spaces, and how we stay connected to something beyond the immediate.

A belief that luxury is not excess, but depth.

That place can be felt, not just visited.

And that through scent, we can bring more of that feeling into everyday life.
